Can you believe it ? actually it is true. Mahindra introducing a new range of revolutionary electric three wheelers for the Indian market, and it is called Treo. It is powered by the most advanced Li - Ion technology. Petrol price is increasing and we are out of crude oil. The next generation of power source is electricity. For the first time, Mahindra bringing electric auto rickshaw. The Treo has been launched in four variants- Treo SFT, Treo HRT, Treo Yaari SFT and Treo Yaari HRT. While the Treo can seat four including the driver, the Treo Yaari can seat five people including the driver. The SFT are the soft top models while HRT are the hard top ones.  

It has the same size as a normal auto rickshaw. Body is made by using fiber and plastic for maximum weight saving. Mahindra assures that the body is able to resist small amount of forces. Unlike other auto's Treo comes with hard top variants. It comes in blue and white color coding. The dimensions are more than the standard compact auto rickshaw. Even though the size Treo weighs only 340 kg. It uses 12 inch tyre and it is bigger than other auto’s which provides 140 mm of ground clearance.  Suspension system fuses rigid axle, leaf spring and shock absorber, provide driving comfortable for driver and passenger. Overall treo is light weight and compact. In the inside, there is big room for driver and passenger. But there is no luggage space is provided.

Treo uses a powerful electric motor which is powered by 48V lithium-iron battery of 7.37 KWh. The battery is placed under the driver seat. The battery box is IP 67 rated which ensures safety to the battery. It have a top speed of 45 km/hr which is best for urban driving. The motor generates 5.4 KW peak power, 30 Nm torque with direct drive transmission. In full charge Treo is able to travel 120 kilometer. It only takes 3 hr 50 minute to full charge the battery. For charging of battery takes 8 units of electricity. Just charging for half an hour, Treo can travel about 32 kilometer. For power saving Treo have regenerative breaking system which uses kinetic energy to charge the battery while breaking. Mahindra offers 5 years of life time and 2 years replacement warranty for Treo.

Treo is very easy to drive. It has 3 drive modes and the driver can select these modes using a switch. These modes changes the power produced by the motor. L-mode is basically for urban uses. In this mode Treo goes in 30 km/hr. M-mode is for more speed. In this mode Treo goes 40 km/hr. If load is more, then the driver can select H-mode. In this mode Treo goes 45 km/hr.

Price is more than the standard three wheelers, starts at 2.22 lakhs. Zero pollution and noiseless drive, making Treo environmental friendly. Zero maintenance for the Li-Ion battery for more than 5 years of life. By looking at all these characteristics, Treo is the future of small distance public transport.
